OpenAI has just added another rung to ChatGPT’s ladder by combining a work agent, upgraded desktop apps, and the GPT-5.6 model family. For Vietnamese marketers, this is not just a technology story, but also a signal that planning, content production, and workflow automation are entering a more clearly defined “AI collaboration” phase.
What stands out is that OpenAI is not only upgrading model power, but also bringing those capabilities into everyday work experiences across web, mobile, and desktop. This could directly affect how marketing teams organize work, test ideas, and coordinate between humans and AI.
- ChatGPT Work is a new agent that works on web, mobile, and desktop.
- ChatGPT desktop has been upgraded with integrated Codex, combining Chat, Work, and Codex on Mac.
- GPT-5.6 includes three variants, Sol, Terra, and Luna, and will roll out within the next 24 hours.
- OpenAI adds ultra for complex tasks and opens the API to developers with advanced tool-calling mechanisms.
OpenAI takes ChatGPT into a new “work era”
In its July 9 livestream, OpenAI introduced the “next chapter” of ChatGPT, centered on ChatGPT Work — a new agent designed for a cross-platform work environment. According to the company, ChatGPT Work is available on web, mobile, and desktop, showing that the goal is not only to answer questions but also to take part directly in everyday workflows.
For marketers, this shift is especially notable because AI is no longer standing outside as a standalone Q&A tool. It is moving closer to the role of a “digital teammate” that can track work context, handle tasks, and support users across multiple devices. In a setting where Vietnamese marketing teams often juggle content, media, reporting, and client work, an agent like this could change how time and resources are allocated.
ChatGPT desktop merges Codex: a clear sign of product convergence
Another important point is that the ChatGPT desktop app has been upgraded to integrate Codex. OpenAI says that on macOS, ChatGPT now includes three modes: Chat, Work, and Codex. This is a consolidation move, rather than forcing users to switch between separate apps.

Operationally, this convergence could help marketing teams shorten workflows when they need to brainstorm, create content, and handle more technical tasks at the same time. For businesses using AI for landing pages, campaign content, or internal workflow automation, a unified app will be easier to deploy and standardize than maintaining multiple disconnected tools.
OpenAI is also showing that it is pushing a “one app for many jobs” experience, which is especially important in the enterprise market. Instead of selling only smart answers, the company is now selling an environment that can execute work.
GPT-5.6: three models, three capability tiers, plus an “ultra” mode
OpenAI said GPT-5.6 will be released today, following the introduction of the Sol, Terra, and Luna trio at the end of June. According to the company’s description, Sol is the flagship model, Terra is balanced for everyday work, and Luna is geared toward speed and lower cost. This naming approach suggests OpenAI is moving away from a “one model for everything” mindset toward a more flexible ecosystem of choices.

The most notable new feature is ultra, which OpenAI describes as the highest speed boost for power-hungry tasks. In this mode, multiple agents can work in parallel to complete complex tasks faster. For marketers, this suggests that multi-step problems — such as research, competitor analysis, content structuring, and output quality checks — could be handled in a “multi-threaded” way rather than linearly.
OpenAI also emphasizes better design and interface evaluation capabilities. This is a very important detail for anyone working in creative, UX marketing, or landing page development. AI can do more than generate a rough draft; it can also review display results, spot visual issues, and refine them before handoff.
Pricing, access rights, and opportunities for developers
On access rights, OpenAI draws a fairly clear line between Chat users, ChatGPT Work, and Codex, as well as between the Free, Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. Pro and Enterprise users get the highest-end option for complex tasks; meanwhile, the API gives developers access to Sol, Terra, and Luna based on their needs.

From a technical perspective, OpenAI has also added Programmatic Tool Calling in the Responses API, allowing the model to write and run programs in memory to orchestrate tools and process intermediate results. The company says this is compatible with Zero Data Retention. At the same time, the beta multi-agent feature lets the model run multiple subagents at once and then combine the results into a single request.
This opens up many applications for marketing teams with automation capabilities: from generating internal reports and consolidating campaign data to building content pipelines or classifying customer feedback. However, to use it effectively, businesses still need clear review processes, because higher speed does not mean absolute accuracy.
What this means for the Vietnamese market
For Vietnam’s market, this announcement shows that AI is moving from a “creative support tool” to a true work infrastructure. Agencies, in-house teams, and marketing startups may benefit the most if they redesign workflows around task layering: AI handles the preliminary work, while humans retain the role of direction, review, and final decision-making.

In practice, Vietnamese businesses should watch three main impacts. First, content productivity could rise if agents and multi-agent workflows are used properly. Second, quality control and brand safety requirements will become more important because outputs are faster and more abundant. Third, marketing tech, no-code, and automation teams may become more important, because the value lies in how AI is integrated into operating systems, not just in prompt writing.
In short, ChatGPT Work and GPT-5.6 are not just product updates. They are a signal that the AI game in marketing is moving into the “AI working alongside humans” stage — and those who prepare their workflows earlier will have a clearer advantage.
